Antigua

Recommended season
The dry season, between November-May, is the more touristic one.. therefor the prices will rise as well
There are not supposed to be major rainfalls
The wet season, between June-October, is when both the temperatures and the rains are increasing
This is a less touristic season so the trip will be cheaper

Recommended time
Between 4-5 nights

How do we get there
If you`re coming from Guatemala City you can take a shuttle which costs like 10 dollars and brings you to the main square of Antigua
I came from Semuc Champey and booked a shuttle from the hostel, 7 hours driving more or less but we saw a few movies and it was alright

Where should we stay
I recommend you to book your nights at Antigua Hostel
An hotel atmosphere but an hostel price
They got a restaurant at the entrance, kind service, clean dorms PLUS they offer to book for you the tours in the area
I highly recommend this place

Attractions
The scenic town got a lot of shops and good restaurants, it`s fun just walking around the streets and hanging in the main square

Antigua is known as a good place to learn spanish
Most schools offer similar study programs and arrange for you to stay in the homes of families or student dormitories
If I had enough time I would definitely stay for a while

Go to the big market which offers you anything you can think of
Clothes, toys, furniture, electronics and food
There is another really nice market next to it with many souvenirs stands
The whole place is located next to the main buss station

You MUST do the Acatenango track
Hard climbing but totally worth it
Camping above the clouds, hot chocolate milk and a breathtaking view of the volcano`s eruptions
A once in a lifetime experience
At the entrance the local will try to sell you walking sticks, take one.. it`s really helpful
Make sure to bring some snacks and a lot of warm clothes
