The area was a volcano crater that collapsed and was filled with clear rainwater
Recommended season
The dry season, between November-May, is the more touristic one.. therefor the prices will rise as well
There are not supposed to be major rainfalls
The wet season, between June-October, is when both the temperatures and the rains are increasing
This is a less touristic season so the trip will be cheaper
Recommended time
I think in this area 2 nights will be enough
How do we get there
From Antigua you have 2 options, one is to take a shuttle which is a little bit expensice
and the other one is to use the public transport which was horrible but I guess you got to experience these kind of things once in a trip
Anyway you will get to Panajachel and from there you can take a boat to the variety of villages surrounding the lake
Where should we stay
The most touristic village in the area is San Pedro
I booked 2 horrible nights at Casa Blanca Hostel, I`m sure you will be able to find a nicer place to stay
Attractions
In the village you can find nice restaurants which overlook the lake
If you climb up you will also find massages centers, yoga classes and a local market
I personally came especially for San Marcos, a quite and hippie place.. totally different atmosphere from what I`m used to
I highly recommend you to go to the Yoga Forest for a lesson or two with the calm vibes and beautiful view from the top of the mountain
Don`t even try to go to the morning lesson unless you`re staying at the forest or at least at San Marcos
Even the earliest ferry won`t get you there in time
The walking to the forest is pretty long and the signs are not cleared at all
It took as some time until we found the place, don`t be confused with the Mushrooms Forest next to it
You better go to the noon class
